About Port Andratx

Port Andratx is also known as Port d’Andratx and is located 5km from its neighbouring Andratx town. With a well equipped yacht club offering more than 450 berths, the area has become popular among those with a love boats and the water. However, the area has retained its Mallorcan authenticity, with local fisherman still working in the port. With two small bays and surrounding amenities such as golfing, spas and larger beaches, Port Andraxt has something to suit every taste.

Port Andratx was built in the mid 20th century and was centred around its existing fishing port. Like many towns around the coast, Andratx was built several kilometres inland from its port, in a bid to deter pirate raids.

As an exceptional enclave, Port Andratx lies at the foot of the magnificent mountain range known as Serra de Tramuntana and is well connected to the capital, Palma de Mallorca, which you can reach in approximately 25 minutes by car.

Attractions in Port Andratx

The main point of interest in Port Andratx is its natural beauty, including sublime beaches and lush mountain landscapes. This makes the area perfect for those that like to keep active with many hiking routes available to explore the surrounding mountain range. For those that want to enjoy the sunshine, you can also bask at one of the port’s nearby beaches, which vary from small bays to larger stretches of sand.

There are many things to do in Port Andratx which are in close proximity to the area, including a host of luxury retreats and nature parks. The Natural Park of Dragonera is a must-see, existing as one of the most beautiful natural parks on the island. Consisting of 3 small islands called Isla Dragonera, la Mitjana and Espantaneu, the park is separated from the coast of Mallorca by a 800m channel. Sa Dragonera Natural Park is home to over 350 species of plant and an intriguing lizard population – an endemic subspecies that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

Also close to Port Andratx you will find the Centre of Contemporary Art (CCA). This is one of the largest and most impressive art galleries in Mallorca, offering a unique cultural experience. The gallery is dedicated to the creation and exhibition of contemporary art and showcases both national and international artists. Here, visitors are invited to spend a day exploring art and nature whilst enjoying the many facilities of the gallery.

Alternatively, Studio Weil is a great choice and was built and designed by the American painter and sculptor Barbara Weil. Overlooking Port d’Andratx, here you can find paintings and sculptures from the American artist with the building itself being a piece of art, designed by the architect Daniel Libeskind. He created a building that takes the form of a concrete arc that is cut through with a pair of stairs. The building houses exhibition spaces, working quarters and a dramatic landscaped garden.

Golf de Andratx

Mallorca is a fantastic golf destination thanks to its exceptional climate and number of excellent golf courses. Here you can practise or improve your golfing skills, live your passion for golf or simply enjoy the island’s breath-taking natural beauty.

Located less than 30km from the island’s capital of Palma de Mallorca, Golf de Andratx sits in the beautiful coastal town of Camp de Mar. Its spectacular surroundings, picturesque views and stimulating hole designs certainly provide a truly unforgettable experience for golfing in Mallorca. The golf course has a signature 6th hole which carries the status as the ‘Longest Hole in Spain’ thanks to its length of 609 metres.

Beaches

The wonderful feature of Port Andratx is the variety of beaches surrounding the area. Camp de Mar is a small tourist resort which lies on the coast and is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. As well as a plethora of amenities including restaurants, cafés and bars, the water is also transparent with heavenly white sand. This is a popular spot for families and its islet can be reached through an iconic wooden walkway.

Also in close proximity to Port Andratx is the charming fishing port village of San Telmo. The area is popular as a seafront resort for its pretty beach in the backdrop of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. Despite the urban development of the recent decades, the area still conserves its charm with the sandy beaches of Cala Conills and Cala En Basset contributing to its extraordinary and natural landscape.

Shopping in Port Andratx

Port d’Andratx offers a great deal in terms of shopping and makes a great activity during your visit. There is a main strip along the beach front which has a variety of shops as well as a host of others on the back streets and rising hills that surround the port and town. With a mix of designer, jewellery, fashion and decoration shops, something for the entire family can be found here.

The area’s shops offer great alternatives to shopping in Palma de Mallorca, with a great variety of choices to enjoy a much needed day of retail therapy. There is also an organic supermarket close to Port Andratx which works with local suppliers of fresh produce. The popular chain of Véritas supermarkets are truly a pleasure for those that appreciate organic, healthy and delicious food and make a great substitute to eating out in Port Andratx.

Restaurants in Port Andratx

Although the area is relatively small, there is still a great choice of restaurants to dine at. From excellent local restaurants where you can sample on delicious bites to exclusive fine dining eateries, visitors can enjoy the true wonders of Mallorcan gastronomy. There really is something to suit every taste, mood and routine, with a relaxed atmosphere and mixed crowd.

Beef tartare, duck foie gras, flamed sea bass and other delicacies are served in the elegant Trespais Restaurant being one of the most popular restaurants in Port Andratx. The wine selection is fantastic and reasonably priced, with superb quality of food and an attentive service in a truly relaxed ambience.

Also noteworthy is Restaurant Sumailla which enjoys a privileged location with spectacular views. Known for its exceptional Japanese cuisine and superb wine list, it is well recommended to try the menu. If you are not a great fan of Asian cuisine, there is a plethora of alternative dining options with an array of delicious food to be sampled.
